Mo's Online Store
Interview with Maya Rica Davis

What did students learn about collaborative project work?

Do find people in the class helping you, or do you help people in the class?
Sometimes I help my friend Carla. And my friend Malita helps me. And I help like her and, but it's like sometimes, not to be rude, but it's like always the same people that help each other, or you're helping them. Because some people want to learn, and some people are too proud to ask for any help, and some people, like me, will ask, and they keep asking until you answer them. And then, like if somebody wants help then I help them, but if they're not gonna help themselves I don't always help them. Like if I help and then five minutes later they call me and I already told them the answer. I can't afford to help them again because I'm just putting myself behind.

Did students plan out their work?

Did you plan what your site was going to look like before you started coding?
Yes.

Did you do that on paper?
I did it at home in PowerPoint with colors and everything so it would look exactly like what I wanted it to be.

What motivated students?

How did you come up with the idea to do a virtual store for teenage products, or clothing products?
Because like a lot of stuff that I do is always related to what I want, pretty much. Like, I like low prices, so that's what I do. And plus like a lot of people would tell me that I'm very creative and I'm very organized. See that's what I find, if I keep myself organized it's often easy for me to do stuff. And plus I just think people need to give teenagers more chances and if they, like how you're doing this interview, if they find out what we want, then everything wouldn't have to be so, just always telling us all the time. We could work together.

What did students learn about managing projects?

Do you think this site would have been easier to do it with somebody else?
Possibly, but I remember last year when I was doing it. It was like, I picked kind of like the two worst people in the class. I guess I thought I would kind of help a little bit, but it turned out pretty good because Mr. Foggo doesn't grade you on, you know, if he knows A did 95% of the work and B and C only did 45%, well that's how he grades. It's like, I got a 95% and my other two partners got like a 70 and 75%. Because really like even if I tell them what to type, they didn't want to do it. That's why me and my friends will tell you I like to work by myself, because I find other people sometimes are restless. And I don't like to stress myself out so I just do it with the one person that I know would listen, myself.
