Classroom connect quests

Join Quest Interactive Expeditions and travel with a team of explorers,
adventurers, and students to solve great mysteries around the world. Using
a variety of online mediums including film, photos, and text, students
and teachers follow and participate in actual expeditions in various parts
of the world. Students and teachers collaborate with the actual explorers,
as well as students and teachers from other participating schools to gather
and analyze information.
Computer pals around the world (CPAW)

CPAW is a non-profit global educational electronic network with a presence
in over 20 countries. They provide an online calendar of global projects
from which members can choose.
EduWeb: Projects

EduWeb is a list of international projects and contacts hosted by a UK
internet provider. The site provides search capabilities by grade and/or
subject areas and checks all projects before they are posted for educational
suitability.
ePALS classroom exchange

Matches classrooms throughout the world. They offer free web-based e-mail
accounts to facilitate communication with other students, teachers and
classrooms. Also provide links to online projects.

In addition to sponsoring a number of Internet projects, this site offers
the Electronic Sister School Program, a service through which schools
are matched with other schools around the world. Schools then communicate
with each other to set up either project or keypal exchanges.

GLOBE

Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment is a worldwide
network of students, teachers, and scientists working together to understand
the global environment. Students and teachers from over 5,000 schools
in 70 countries are involved. GLOBE students make environmental observations
at or near their schools and report their data through the Internet. Scientists
use GLOBE data in their research and provide feedback to the students
to enrich their science education.

Hosts 450 interactive, global, and multilingual student projects designed
to make a difference on the planet. Projects are designed by teachers.

Intercultural e-mail classroom connections

The IECC organization manages several mailing lists intended to help teachers
and classes link with partners in other countries and cultures for email
classroom pen-pal and project exchanges.
International schools cyberfair

This international competition encourages K-12 students around the world
to conduct research about own local community and then build a web project
that tells their story. Now in its sixth year, CyberFair has been described
as the largest educational event of its kind ever held on the Internet.
This program has brought together more than 500,000 students from over
70 countries.

Student Innovation Award

This Macromedia sponsored project encourages students in grades 8-12 to
submit a website built using at least one Macromedia product (Dreamweaver,
Flash, Fireworks, Ultradev, etc.) that has a focussed subject, or is a
student portfolio. Cash and product prizes awarded to winning entries.
ThinkQuest

The project encourages 2 or 3 member teams of young people from diverse
backgrounds and distant points, to use their creative, technical, and
intellectual capacities to develop learning materials on the internet.
In the contest year 1999, nearly 7000 young people, and their teachers
and schools from 78 nations took part in ThinkQuest programs. The best
of these entries in each category are awarded substantial scholarships
for all student team members for use in their higher education years.
The coaches and schools involved in the award winning teams are also provided
monetary prizes for their educational activities. Awards range from $5,000
- 15,000 for each student team member and $1,000 - 3000 for each teacher/coach.
WorLD
